We are not able to get the IP Filter to restrict employees from punching in/out to a specific machine our IP address we are using is '67.???.???.???'. What is the problem and can it be solved?
Answer
What could be happening is that the IP address used in the IP Filter is a public/external IP address that their network router has assigned using NAT (Network Address Translation) as a security measure. This public/external IP is one that everyone's computer on the company network is using to get out to the Internet.

SwipeClock sees this address and thinks it's talking to the right computer regardless of which computer it is on the network since every computer is using the same address and accepts it as valid and allows in/out punches via the WebClock.

As a simplified example, Jim and Tom work at the same company and use the same phone to make outbound calls. Jim calls Sam who has caller ID and tells him to not accept any calls except from him which he can track through the phone number via his caller ID. Tom calls Sam from the same phone as Jim. Sam sees that this is a number on his caller ID he can accept and accepts the call from Tom even though he was told by Jim not to take any calls except from him.

Web Filter using a Public/External IP will allow all computers on the network using that Public/External IP access to our site.

To get the public IP you can go to the below website and it will list it for you:

This can also work in the opposite fashion. If a private IP is on the network (most usually start with a '192.???.???.???') and the network is using a Public IP ('67.???.???.???') to access the internet, if they use the '192.???.???.???' in the filter the system will restrict access because it will see the Public IP not the private one for that computer as trying to access the WebClock. So in other words Private IP addresses or addresses that start with 192. will not work.

Web Filter using a Private/Internal IP will not allow any computers on the network using a Public/External IP because this is what our system will see (Public/External IP) not the IP of the computer (Private/Internal) and block it from access.

To get around this one would either set up a proxy server that machines on the network that need to be used to clock in/out on the WebClock are connected to or in some way allow the machines that need access to clock in/out on the WebClock direct access to the Internet and not through a Public IP. These and any other options would probably require the assistance of the clients local IT Department.

Another could be the employee has a VPN (Virtual Private Network) which means they can login to the network from a remote location like from home and be able to access the WebClock as if they were physically at a PC on the network.
