| How do I extract data using the data extraction kit? | ||||||

| How to extract punches: 1) Plug the unit into its power source and verify that the display illuminates. Unless you get a display with an error message on the clock, you will have no way of communicating with the clock - stop here (nothing can be done about the punches). 2) Verify that there are actually punches to recover in the memory of the clock. To do this, verify the stored punch count by pressing FUNC/ENTER (Blue Key), then 2, then 4. It should say a number like "57 RECORDS." If it does not, or if it says "0 RECORDS," or just goes back to the date and time screen, stop now. (There are no punches to recover). 3) Determine the time zone offset currently in the clock's memory - Do not attempt to make a guess without checking; it changes throughout the year. To get it, from the date/time screen, press ENTER 2 3 ENTER ENTER ENTER. Refer to the list below to confirm what you see on the display: Select one... · TZ=UTC-0400 · TZ=UTC-0500 · TZ=UTC-0600 · TZ=UTC-0700 · TZ=UTC-0800 · TZ=UTC-0900 · TZ=UTC-1000 ...then press Clear (also identified on the faceplate as Cancel) to return to the date/time display. 4) Connect the 8-pin cable included with the Data Extraction Kit to the Tranz 330/380 printer port on the time clock unit and the DB9 connector to the computer's serial port (link cable included). 5) You will need to put a sequence of numbers and letters into the VeriFone's memory to have it produce punch data through the printer port of the time clock unit. To begin, verify you have the date/time screen, then hit FUNC/ENTER, then 7. The password is 1 ALPHA ALPHA 6 6 8 3 1 (the ALPHA key is right above the blue key on the clock). 6) When the clock display reads RECALL WHAT?, type the number 36. Then press FUNC/ENTER. Then press the BACK SPACE key. It asks for a password - - enter the same password as in the previous step (1 ALPHA ALPHA 6 6 8 3 1). The clock will then display: "036=" 7) Enter the following sequence exactly as written. It's important to ensure this is perfectly accurate; otherwise, YOU RISK LOSING ALL YOUR PUNCHES. To enter a letter, press the number key that contains the letter (as a phone key pad), followed by ALPHA enough times until the letter appears. The period is on the 1 key and the dash is on the 0. 8) Pay special attention to the stars, the periods, the dash near the end, and the difference between the letter "i" and the number 1. We have made all the digits red. The 0 towards the end is a zero, not an "oh", and there are two letter "i's" near the end as well. You can use the backspace key to fix mistakes. Remember that this must be entered perfectly or it is not going to work. Here is the sequence: B.1GR66*B3*R6.2.2G*E*F4R13R10*ii-6 9) Next press ENTER to save the changes. Because the number sequence cannot be completely displayed on the screen you can review the sequence for correctness by using the * and # keys to scroll back and forth through the numbers. 10) Once you've typed the sequence, pressed ENTER AND verified the sequence is entered correctly, press CLEAR. 11) If you need to install HyperTerminal, do it now (it is part of most Windows Operating systems in the Accessories / Communications folder, so you normally do NOT need to install it). If you are running a Windows version newer than Windows XP you will need to download and run HyperTerminal from the link in this article: Hyperterminal for Windows 7 (Data Extraction) 12) When asked for a connection name, make one up (like "Recovery"), then "Connect Using" the COM port (i.e. COM1) to which the VeriFone is connected. Set it for 19200 bits per second, and FLOW CONTROL: NONE (this is important!) then press OK. 13) From the blank white screen, click Transfer, then Capture Text. It asks for a file name - be sure to make up a NEW file name each time you capture, or it will add the punches onto the end of another file - - this is NOT what you want. 14) Once the capture is active, press FUNC/ENTER, then 6 on the time clock. The clock should immediately dump all the punches as a screen full of numbers. Once the dump is done, choose Transfer - Capture Text - Stop. (This saves the numbers in that file). 15) Open that file in Notepad (All Programs > Accessories > Notepad) . Copy it to your clipboard. 16) Log on to the website and under Administration choose the Stored Procedures link. In the text box enter DEADMODEM (one word), and paste the contents of the clipboard into the box at the bottom of the page. 17) Finally, where should these punches be sent? They'll be sent to the Unprocessed Punches folder, so you can review them. Go ahead and Process them now (they'll be processed on our side within a few minutes).
